Use the colouring sheets provided for the characters Hop Hop and Painter Paul. There is part of the image missing! Laura (author and illustrator of the book), used a vertical line to cut part of the image in half. Fill in what’s missing and add colour to your picture.

Create a new character for the book! Draw, paint or use LEGO!

Plan a day to go on a road trip (drive or walk)! Use the sheet provided to record the information from your trip and keep a tally of the items you find. When you return, describe your results to a family member. Create a bar graph to share your information visually.

Draw the outline of something you saw on your road trip (for example a leaf or a bird) onto cardboard. Cut this out as a stencil. Use the stencil to create a unique design using translations (movements), rotations (turns) and reflections (flips) of your image. Show your design to an adult and describe your steps. Add colour or pattern to your image.

Explore your house in search of 2D shapes and 3D figures. Record your findings and the characteristics in the chart provided.

*Note: to determine "multiples" of four, students in Grade 2 can skip count by four to create a list: 4, 8, 12 etc.

Choose an object in your house to estimate how many will fit in your cereal box (e.g. marshmallows, dried beans, candies... anything the same size.)

No road trip is possible without some form of transportation!

 

If you have a set of toy vehicles, use tape to assign each one a number value between 0 and 100. Using a measuring tape or metre stick as a number line, place each car at it's appropriate location. Draw and cut out other landmarks that can be placed along your "road".

 

Set up a ramp (use books, cardboard… be creative). How far does the car travel when it leaves the ramp? Estimate the distance and then measure with a measuring tape.

Make a list of which places you would like to visit in one trip. Starting in the bottom left corner of the grid, describe the movements the car would need to make to get from the start to each location and back again.
